Bourbon Brownie Balls

  • 8 ozs left over stale brownies, crumbled
  • 1/3 cup bourbon
  • 4 ozs good dark chocolate

Here's a great use of left over brownies. I know, rarely happens, right!?

You have three choices here:

1- make use of some left over stale brownies. I know, that never happens, but...

2- use store bought brownies, stay away from ones with frosting though

3- or three, make some good ol' boxed brownies and torture yourself by not eathing them for a day or two

Whichever route you choose, here's how to make these very simple delicious treats.

Crumbled your stale brownies into a bowl and pour in your bourbon.

Using a spoon or spatula, mix the brownies and bourbon together until it forms a smooth consistency. Usually takes a minute or two for it all to soak in and smooth out.

Lay a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper on a plate and use a small ice cream scoop or melon baller to scoop out small "balls" of the brownies, placing them onto the prepared plate.

Once all the brownie mix is out, store the plate in your freezer for 30 minutes. This will help you roll everything up into beautifully smooth balls, as right now, they are way too sticky to do so.

Remove from freezer and roll them all up in your hands. When done, place plate back in freezer while you prepare your chocolate.

Chop up your dark chocolate. The better quality, the better the results.

Melt 3/4 of the chocolate in a metal bowl over a pan with simmering water to melt the chocolate slowly.

Once the chocolate has more than half melted, remove from heat, add in the rest of the chocolate, and continue stirring until all chocolate has melted. 

Remove the brownie balls from the freezer and dip them one at a time into the melted chocolate. Using a fork, lift the ball out of the chocolate from underneath, making sure to let excess chocolate to drip off before moving it onto some parchment paper.

Repeat process until all balls are done and coated.

The chocolate coating will set in a few minutes leaving you with a ton of options for additonal flavoring or decorating.

Here are some ideas:

- roll the balls in cocoa power

- sprinkle finely ground coffee over the top

- lightly drizzle some caramel sauce over the top
